Founder & Publisher – Leah Caras

Leah Caras, now 21, founded YALDAH magazine at age 13. Since then she’s been running YALDAH as it continued to expand. Leah has received numerous awards including Next Step Magazine’s ‘Super Teen’ and Microsoft’s Start Something Amazing Award. Leah also has her own freelance graphic design business, Carasmatic Design, and is a full-time college student in her ‘free time’. Leah grew up in Massachusetts and now lives with her husband, Rabbi Michael Caras in Brooklyn, NY and their daughter, Chaya Mushka.

Chief Operations Officer – Meira Goldberg

Meira Goldberg , age 16 from Teaneck, NJ, is thrilled to be joining YALDAH’s staff as Chief Operations Officer after being a writer on the Editorial Board in 2010 and 2011. Meira is an eleventh grader at Bruriah High School and is involved in different extracurricular activities, including being an editor of the school’s Israel newspaper, Libi Bamizrach. Meira enjoys singing, acting, reading, baking, daydreaming, and of course, working on YALDAH. Meira is also in charge of sending YALDAH’s weekly e-mail newsletter.

Tali Gross is a talented 15 year old writer from Silver Spring, MD. Tali was on the Editorial Board in 2008 and 2009, and stayed on as an “honorary member” the next couple of years. Spring of 2011 saw Tali appointed as YALDAH’s Editorial Director, a role which fits her perfectly. Tali is in tenth grade at Yeshiva of Greater Washington. You’ll often find her in her kitchen cooking and baking (with the music blasting), playing her violin, or… working on YALDAH!

Fiction Editor – Evelyn Krieger

In addition to freelance writing, Evelyn Krieger has worked as a first grade teacher, private tutor, dance instructor, educational consultant, and reading specialist.  She is the author of One is Not a Lonely Number. Her work has been published in Family Fun, The Reading Teacher, Learning, Teacher Magazine, Baby Talk, Boston Tab, Lilith, Memoirs Ink and Writer’s Digest.  Ms. Krieger enjoys entering writing competitions and has won several awards for her essays and fiction. Ms. Krieger was the Writing Workshop leader at the Jewish Girls Winter Retreat, 2007 and 2008.

Editorial Board Coordinator - Rebecca Berlin

Rebecca Berlin, an eleventh grader living in Southfield, Michigan, was on the Editorial Board for three years before she took on her role as Editorial Board Coordinator at the beginning of 2011. She shares her writing, fashion, photography, and organizational skills with YALDAH on a regular basis. Rebecca served as president for Friendship Circle, and could easily spend her days eating sushi, reading a good book, and listening to music.

Subscriptions Manager – Rochel Larson

Rochel Larson, age 13, was only five years old when her older sister Leah founded YALDAH magazine. She grew up with trips to the post office, last minute craft-testing, and cover photo shoots in the backyard. She officially joined the YALDAH team in 2009 as the author of the “Estie’s Journal” feature. She then took over customer service and subscriptions in 2010. Rochel is home schooled and lives with her family in Sharon, MA.

Copy Editor – Nechama Saltzman

Nechama, YALDAH’s Copy Editor, has been part of the YALDAH staff since her Editorial Board term in 2006, serving in time as Editorial Board Coordinator, Bookstore Manager, and Music Notes feature writer. Nechama, 18, currently lives with her amazing family, works in video editing, and is in college for graphic design in Milwaukee, WI.

Michael began working behind-the-scenes at YALDAH in Summer 2011. He lives in Brooklyn, NY with his wife Leah, and their daughter, Chaya Mushka.

 

 

Rabbinical Advisory Board

Before each issue of YALDAH is finished, a board of Rabbis and Rebbitzens look it over and give us suggestions on things that need to be changed from a religious perspective.

Rabbi Barry Kornblau

Rabbi Barry Kornblau received his undergraduate degree from Yale University and his rabbinic ordination (semicha) from the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary at Yeshiva University. He worked as a computer programmer on Wall Street before becoming a rabbi. He serves as rabbi of the Young Israel of Hollis Hills – Windsor Park in Bayside (Queens), NY; as Director of Member Services at the Rabbinical Council of America. He and his wife, Dina, a pediatric neurologist, have four daughters (including twins) and a son. His girls are big YALDAH fans, and he’s delighted to serve as one of its advisors.

Mrs. Fayge Bamberger

Mrs. Fayge Bamberger, mother of six boys, really enjoys her position on the Rabbinical Advisory Board of YALDAH Magazine! The good news is that she has a granddaughter with whom she can share the joy of YALDAH with, when she gets a little older. Mrs. Bamberger is a Kallah teacher and is the wife of R Bentzion, a Rav and Mashgiach Ruchani. The Bambergers live in Monsey, N.Y. where Mrs. B. is currently teaching kallahs, counseling, and homeschooling her youngest son.

Rabbi Eliezer Sneiderman

Rabbi Eliezer Sneiderman  is the Director of Chabad at the University of Delaware. In addition to his campus responsibilities, he teaches at Delaware Gratz Hebrew High, Wilmington JCC’s Melton Program, and sometimes in the Philosophy Dept. at UD. He has a BA in History from the University of Pennsylvania, got his Semicha from Central Lubavitch Yeshiva, holds an MSW from the Wurzweiler school of Social Work, and is presently enrolled in the EdD. program of Gratz College. He is very proud of his daughters and the young women who put so much into YALDAH.
